Srinagar, Nov 13 (KNO): Expressing resentment over the possible installation of smart power meters in parts of Srinagar, the consumers from different parts of Srinagar Friday cautioned the administration against any such move, which they said may force them for ‘confrontation’. The aggrieved consumers as per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) besides threatening to uninstall smart meters said they will took to the roads in case the administration thrust any such decision on people. “Kashmir valley reels under darkness in winters as the authorities never stick to its own curtailment schedule in both metered and non-metered areas; we still pay and face the highhandedness mutely. But, we cannot tolerate installation of smart power meters at all,” Mushtaq Ahmad, a consumer from Hyderpora locality of uptown Srinagar told KNO. He said the authorities are planning to install smart power meters in Hyderpora and other posh localities of Srinagar where they think people hardly resent against the move. He said a private agency has been hired for the installation of smart power meters in Srinagar. “They dug holes and then erected iron polls at a few places in our locality a few days ago that we vehemently resisted. We were shocked to know that these poles are being raised for the installation of smart power meters,” he added. The consumers in the particular area said they will hit streets in protest and also remove smart meters in case the government went ahead with its anti-people move. They said the administration is forcing people to confront by imposing arbitrary decisions on the people of Kashmir. Consumers from some other areas of Srinagar including Nishat and Brein said the authorities also muse on to install smart power meters in these localities. “We want to make it clear that any decision which goes against our interests will invite stiff resistance from our side. We will not let smart power metered to be installed in our area come what may,” they said—(KNO)
